We love helping all of our customers find their new favorite necklaces, earrings and more, but our engagement ring customers hold a special place in our hearts. We enjoy hearing each and every couple’s love story and helping them find a ring that tells that story. While the tradition of the engagement ring hasn’t changed much over the years, engagement ring styles have. We’re excited to share some of the hottest trends couples are loving this year.
Classic Solitaire
Solitaire engagement rings have never gone out of style. The simplicity of a solitaire ring is elegant on its own, but adding pavé diamond accents or an ornate band make the center diamond really pop. Round brilliant-cut remains the most popular cut for solitaires, but princess-cut diamonds are gaining in popularity for their more contemporary look. Emerald-cut is also a classic look, while oval, pear and marquise cuts break from tradition and offer up a unique spin on this classic.
Colored Gemstones
For the woman who wants to stand out with a unique ring that expresses her personality, a colored gemstone is a great choice. Colored gemstones have been in high demand lately as women crave individuality. Style icons have also recently popularized colorful engagement rings, such as Blake Lively with her swoon-worthy pink diamond and Carrie Underwood with a beautiful canary yellow diamond. And who could forget Princess Diana’s stunning blue sapphire and diamond engagement ring, now worn by Kate Middleton? A colored center gemstone set in a white diamond halo will really make a statement. You could also choose colored gemstones to accent your center diamond for a touch of individuality.
Mixed Metals
You no longer need to choose between white, yellow and rose gold. Mixed-metal engagement rings, which only used to be seen in vintage rings, have become very popular recently. Mixing precious metals (usually white gold with rose or yellow gold) gives your ring dimension and a unique, vintage-inspired look. Rose gold alone has also really risen in popularity the past few years. With its warmer hue, it complements nearly all skin tones and radiates romance. It’s a great choice for vintage-inspired design, but looks equally stunning with modern designs as well. Different colored metals also opens your ring up to the possibility of colored gemstones that complement the different metals.
Three-Stone Settings
Three-stone engagement rings are a favorite not only for their modern look, but also for what they symbolize. The three stones stand for you past, present and future together. Many women like the more classic look of three stones of the same cut, but more and more we’re seeing women choose a different cut for the accent stones. An up-and-coming trend we’ve especially been into this year is the round brilliant-cut center stone with pear-cut accent stones, creating a floral look.
Ornate Side Views
Flashy rings are much less popular than they used to be. Instead, couples crave intimate details that set a ring apart. Adding unique detailing to the sides of your engagement ring is like your own little secret; it shows your love chose to add an intimate surprise just for you. It’s less about showing off and more about making the wearer feel special. Ornate side views, such as diamonds or unique band design on the sides of the center stone, are the most common, but some rings even feature a second metal on the inside of the ring to make it especially unique . Many of Gabriel & Co.’s engagement rings have stunning side views like the three pictured below.
Nature-Inspired Designs
More and more we’re seeing elements from nature in engagement rings. Naturalistic patterns that evoke leaves or flowers have become very popular, as seen in the floral designs from Sylvie. These designs have been popular among non-traditional brides who respect the tradition of the engagement ring, but want to make it their own.
